Wu Weihua, who was born in Xiaoyi in Shanxi province in October 1956, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at China Agricultural University, a plant cell physiology and molecular biologist and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science.

Wu also serves as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education. He is vice chairman of the Chinese Society of Plants, executive director and deputy secretary general of the Chinese Society of Plant Physiology, as well as being a member of the American Society of Plant Physiology.

Wu obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Shanxi University in January 1982.

Since the mid-1980s, he has been mainly engaged in the study of molecular mechanisms of plant cell signal transduction, the regulation mechanisms of plant cell transmembrane ion transport, the efficient use of nutrients in plants and the physiological and genetic regulation mechanisms of stress resistance.

Wu has published over 30 academic papers in such international journals as Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci, Plant Physiology, Plant & Cell Physiology, Planta and J. Exp. Bot, as well as domestic journals such as Chinese Science, Science Bulletin and Plant Journal.

In recent 10 years, he participated in several scientific research programs for the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 973 Program, National 863 Biotechnology Program and the Rockefeller Foundation for Scientific Research.

In 1995, Wu was nominated for the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and National Fund for Excellent Young Teachers.

In 1997, Wu was awarded the esteemed title of Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, by the Ministry of Agriculture.

In March 1999, Wu was included in the first batch of special professors in the "Changjiang Scholars Award Program" by the Ministry of Education.

In 2003, Wu was awarded the National “May 1st” Labor Medal and the Capital “May 1st” Labor Medal.
