Senior citizens in Taiyuan can receive free medical consultations and treatment from Dec 16 to 21 as “Shanxi hospital registration”, an online platform for booking consultations, initiated a medical care event along with six top local hospitals.
The event is being held in seven local communities. On Dec 16, eight experts, nurses and clinicians from the Hospital of Shanxi University of TCM and the No 2 Hospital of Shanxi Medical University went to Laojunying community.
Targeted at senior citizens with a high risk of diabetes, cardiovascular problems and gastrointestinal diseases, they brought blood glucose monitors, blood pressure machines and related medicine to the event and conducted tests, diagnosed illnesses and prescribed medication.
Yang Huiyu, director of the Department of Cardiology at No 2 Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, delivered a speech to the residents in the Laojunying community on the symptoms and prevention of coronary artery disease as well as how to lower blood pressure for people with hypertension.
More than 100 residents received a medical consultation with some locals getting free traditional Chinese medicine. Some 500 brochures about health care were also distributed.
Free medical consultations will be offered in a further six communities, including Jinxiuyuan and Shuangxicheng communities, with the health care event finishing Dec 21.
