A rare fern called Microlepia krameri C. M. Kuo was indentified in China.

It was discovered on Langqi Island in Fujian province of East China, by scientific investigation members from Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, on June 18.

Early in 2004, a specimen of the fern, which is native to Taiwan, was discovered outside Taiwan for the first time, in Hong Kong, which was a new record for Hong Kong.

The discovery of the fern in Fujian province further confirms the biogeographic link among the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center was established by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Forestry Administration, to provide scientific and technological support for the development of Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden.
