A brand new event NAB show Global Innovation Exchange (GIX), sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in the US and the Shanghai International High-tech Cultural Device Cluster (TCDIC), opened at the Shanghai International Convention Center, in the Pudong New District, on Dec 3, bringing together leaders from across the sector to discuss developments in global media and entertainment.

Taking part here in the 2-day event were government leaders, Chinese and foreign experts, world-renowned directors, and heads of video providers, communications and cable network companies and electronics manufacturers discussing the promotion of innovation and integration of global media in the Internet era, in response to Shanghai's great potential in the media business.

The organizers say there were 37 experts from all over the world to speak on content production and video shooting, and editing and transmission, with two of them, Jim Chabin, president of the US’s Advanced Image Society, talking about 3D technology in film production, and Yang Xianghua, senior vice president of iQIYI, one of China's largest video-streaming websites, saying about online videos.

Another focus is training and, for this year's event, a Digital Oscar Audio winner, Michael Minkler, has been invited to share his ideas on audio production in film with some university students majoring in media, film and television, to broaden local students' horizons in an enlightening and useful lecture.

Gordon Smith, president and CEO of the NAB, said that this event gave him a better understanding of China's media industry and increased his confidence in the NAB Show - GIX program in China and that a version for 2016 in Shanghai is in the works.

The NAB show, launched by the National Association of Broadcasters, is the world's largest electronic media show dealing with creation, management and delivery of content across all forms and is the ultimate marketplace for digital media and entertainment as well as solutions that transcend traditional broadcasting and embrace content delivery to new screens in new ways.

The organizers said they will host more training activities in the future to nurture professionals for Chinese industries through cooperation with the NAB.
