In celebration of the Lantern Festival, "Eye of Bohai Sea", the world's biggest shaftless ferris wheel, held a grand firework and light show along the Bailang River on Feb 19 in Weifang, East China's Shandong province, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.

The wheel, 125 meters in diameter and 145 meters tall, was put into operation last May. It has 36 compartments, each able to hold a maximum of 10 people. It takes about 30 minutes for the wheel to turn a complete circle.

Construction of the wheel took three years, and more than 5,000 tonnes of steel was used for the main structure.

Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month as a continuation of celebrating the Spring Festival. It falls on Feb 19 this year.
