A Chinese cultural center is set to be built on the site of the former Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Serbia, which was bombed 17 years ago.

According to an agreement signed between the Ministry of Culture and Shandong provincial government on Monday, the center will be constructed by Shandong Hi-speed Group and is scheduled for completion in June 2018.

It will cover 5,999 square meters and feature four separate zones — a Chinese cultural center, embassy apartments, a business reception area and office space, said Jiang Cheng, general manager of Shandong Hi-speed Group.

Ding Wei, deputy minister of culture, said the center will work closely with artistic organizations in Serbia to offer a platform for both countries to make cultural exchanges.
