The Russian cellist Natalia Gutman gave a solo concert on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the World War II at the Qingdao Grand Theater, in the city of Qingdao, Shandong province, on April 3, according to the Chinese-language Qingdao Daily.

Gutman performed a string of classics by Russian musician Dmitri Shostakovich, including his Cello Concerto No 1. Gutman said that different people had different understanding towards Shostakovich's works and that she just hoped her audience could learn more about the original meaning of his works in her concert.

The organizers also held a lecture about Shostakovich's works at the Qingdao's Great Hall of the People.

Natalia Gutman was born in 1942 and later admitted to the Moscow Conservatory, where she was taught by Mstislav Rostropovich, a well-known Russian cellist and conductor. She had concert tours around Europe, America and Japan. As a supporter of chamber music and contemporary music, she, together with her husband Oleg Kagan, founded the Internationales Musikfest Kreuth (International Chamber Music Festival) in 1990.
