Seven industrial bases have been formed in Qingdao, divided into the following sectors: home appliances and electronics, petroleum and industrial chemicals, automobiles, ships and marine-related projects, textiles and garments, food and beverages, and machinery and steel.

The output of these seven industries increased by 15.3 percent last year, accounting for 84.5 percent of the total increase in output by all large-scale industries in Qingdao.

With regard to the textile and garment sector, focuses are on textiles, garment production, material processing and development, and the manufacture of advanced textile machines.

In the food and beverage sector, focuses are on the processing of grain and oil, fruit and vegetables, poultry and seafood products and the manufacture of related machines, development and manufacture of beer and related equipment and packaging materials. Efforts will also be made to develop technology for supervising food safety.

In the machinery and steel sector, focuses are on the manufacture of machinery equipment, hardware and mechanical tools, power transmission equipment, instruments and meters, electric wiring, power station boilers and steel production.

In the home appliance and electronics sector, emphasis is put on developing new home appliances, electrical appliances for commercial use, multi-media technology, communication technologies, computers, software and integrated systems.

In the petroleum and industrial chemical sector, focuses are on research and development work with petroleum, rubber tires, high-grade synthetic chemicals, new chemical materials and agricultural chemicals.

In the automobile sector, focuses are on research and development of automobile and automobile parts, trains and their fittings.

In the sector of ship and marine-related projects, focuses are on design and manufacture of hi-tech ships, above-100,000 ton ships, and their supporting equipment, as well as equipment for marine-related projects and supporting facilities.
