A special train carrying 68 tourists from Shenyang arrived in Dandong on Oct 31. It is the first tourism train to arrive in Dandong during the travel off-season in years, Yalu River Evening News reported today.
"This is my first time to Dandong. The air is quite good here," said 80-year-old tourist Xie Wenyun.
These Shenyang tourists will spend three days and two nights in Dandong. During that time they will visit Dandong's tourist attractions, including the Yalu River, Hekou scenic spot, Hushan Great Wall and Yalu River Broken Bridge.
The special tourism train was organized by the Shenyang Railroad International Travel Agency. It seeks to tap into the tourism market by utilizing China's vast railway network.
Dandong is considered a key tourism destination, with special tourism trains from Jinzhou and Changchun expected to open to Dandong next May.
Liaoning and Jilin special tourism trains to Dandong are also expected to open once a month, injecting new energy into Dandong's tourism market.
