Many materials can be used in bike frames, and Suzhou Tianjian Bamboo Technology Company has developed a bamboo-framed bicycle.

The bamboo bicycle offers a smooth and com-fortable ride, while its safety and durability reach European standards, having passed 100,000 tests under the test load of 100kg.

The bamboo bike, named “Bamboom,”looks no different from an ordinary bike, except that it bears the natural texture of bamboo. The bike is very light to ride, weighing less than 10kg. “Bam-boos is a light, flexible and durable material. Vi-bration reduction is one of the most desirable fea-tures of such bikes,”the company manager told Suzhou Daily.

Bamboo, both renewable and biodegradable, is considered by many to be a more eco-friendly ma-terial than other more conventional frame mate-rials. Bamboo bikes have become 　trendy, with producers in the United States, Asia and Africa.

The “Bamboom”bike caught much attention at a bicycle exhibition in 　the Netherlands in mid-October. The bike is offered at 1,500 euros (13,000 yuan), one third of the price offered by other producers at the exhibition.

The company has begun to develop many dif-ferent kinds of bamboo bikes, aiming at the European market.
