The city of Fes, Morocco, became a sister city of Wuxi on November 22, 2011.

It is the 3rd largest city in Morocco and the capital of the Fès-Boulemane region, having a population of about 1,040,000. With the Fes River passing through it, Fes is the Muslim religious and cultural center of northern Morocco, the educational and cultural center in North Africa, and also a historical and tourist resort.

It has been the capital of religion, culture and commerce for several dynasties throughout the history of Morocco, and it's also the oldest city among the four ancient king cities of the country, so it was called the "Athens of Africa" due to its long history and vital status. In 1981, UNESCO listed Fez as a World Heritage Site.
