A selected group of highly talented Chinese musicians arrived in Kunshan, Jiangsu province on Aug 8 to take part in the 2016 Poly WeDo Music and Culture Summer Campus.

The aim of the camp is to offer young musicians a rich and challenging environment in which to hone skills, broaden horizons, and hopefully provide them with some life lessons along the way.

The summer camp, which will run until Aug 16, consists of a myriad of wonderful music related-activities. Students receive one-on-one instrument lessons, learn how to play in both a small ensemble and a large orchestra, and attend a range of music themed lectures.

But it's not all hard work for the youngsters, they get the chance to head on a museum tour and also enjoy a wealth of cultural experiences.

Two dates booked in everyone's diaries are Aug 10 and 14 when the music camp will host charity concerts in first Kunshan Poly Theatre and later Wuxi Grand Theatre. Both concerts are free to enter.

These concerts are part of Poly WeDo's so-called "Dream Plan". The idea is to run an extensive domestic tour comprising 50 concerts and to use the money raised to help support underprivileged children with budding musical talent.

In order to choose musicians, the organizers host an open competition in which keen prodigies are given the chance to audition for a place on the stage beside some great musical masters. Those auditioning Suzhou and Wuxi will compete for three places.

Cao Hongwen, general manager of Poly Cultural Group Co., LTD, has been talking in enthusiastic terms about the merits of the camp.

"The music camp provides children with many interesting activities to take part in. We hope these young campers can enjoy themselves during the eight days at the camp. More importantly, we hope they can develop a respect and affection for traditional Chinese culture."

According to Poly Group, those scheduled to attend include; Sheng Zhongguo, president of the Violin Society of China, He Rong, president of the Viola Society of China, Yu Mingqing, president of the Cello Society of China, violinist Tong Weidong, violist Sheng Li and pianist Tian Jiaxin.
