The pingtan (a form of storytelling and ballad singing in the Suzhou dialect) performance Song Guo Lan (or “giving fruit basket”), the Xiju opera Yaya Gets Zero on the Test and a public culture grid management service project, all representing Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province, received awards at the 10th China Art Festival.

The pingtan performance and Xiju opera were written and directed by artists from Zhangjiagang.

Song Guo Lan tells the story of an official in a town that is honest and upright, trying his best to benefit the public. Yaya Gets Zero on the Test tells the story of a kid whose parents are migrant workers in another city. The child fails an exam on purpose to meet her mother.

The public culture grid management service project has been carried out since 2011. It aims to guarantee the basic cultural rights of the people. The project’s concept, system and service are all innovative. It received the 2013 National Cultural Innovation Project award by the Ministry of Culture.

The China Art Festival is the largest, highest-level and most influential national art event on the Chinese mainland. It began in 2004 and is held every 3 years.
