Explore a frozen world in Hulunbuir grassland

A recent conference held in Hohhot aimed to promote winter tourism in Hulunbuir, a world of ice and snow endowing grand frozen scenes alongside amusement parks, and a land embraced with multiple Mongolian folk customs and much hospitality of local nomads.

The Hulunbuir government has recommended a route for tourists to take, “Hailar-Manzhouli-Genhe”, where tourists can explore icy lands, experience nomadic lifestyles, and the historic culture of the Mongolian ethnic group.

Located in the north of Hulunbuir, Genhe is recognized as one of the coldest cities in China. Local people invite Santa Claus from Finland every December 24 to celebrate the Christmas festival, during which tourists can feed reindeers, ride sleighs, drink deer milk, and experience hunting.

As a city adjacent to Russia, Manzhouli is home to much Russian-style architecture, and lots of ice-sports and facilities including ski tracks, snow-mobiles, bumper cars on the ice, and skating rinks have offered much fun for winter tourists.

On Dec 23, the 17th China Ice and Snow Nadam Festival is expected to be hosted at the scenic area of Huhe Nuoer, in Chen Barag Banner, during which tourists can enjoy many unique Mongolian customs alongside the frozen landscape.
