Hunan Provincial Party Chief Xu Shousheng inspected the Shanghai Volkswagen project in Changsha on Dec 18, and urged the enterprise to build a first-class plant with advanced management and technology, a model for the development of the real economy, Changsha Evening News reported.

Local government officials Han Yongwen, Yi Lianhong, Huang Lanxiang, Hu Henghua and Chen Xianchun, as well as He Xiangdong, director and Party branch chief of Shanghai Volkswagen, attended the investigation.

The project is located in the Ganshan district of Changsha county and the construction work started in May, 2013. With the support of local government, the project party has completed investments of 5 billion yuan and built up four major workshops and a technical center.

When completed, the project will be built into a world-class automobile production line, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 vehicles and output value of 150 billion yuan. It is expected to be put into production next May.

The Changsha Plant enjoys the largest investment, the most advanced level of technology and environmental protection among all the offsite plants of Shanghai Volkswagen, said a principal of the company. Meanwhile, the plant will be a real “green plant” as it has deployed multiple energy saving and emission reduction techniques, such as photovoltaic power generation, rainwater reuse, and waste heat recovery of air conditioning.

Xu said that Shanghai Volkswagen’s green plant concept is highly consistent with Hunan province’s “two-oriented society” construction. He encouraged the company to explore more green and low-carbon construction options, to provide references for local enterprises in Hunan.

Since the launch of Shanghai Volkswagen, the region has attracted 38 enterprises of automobile parts and logistics. Xu hoped that the enterprise will keep on extending its upstream and downstream industry chain and propel the upgrading of Hunan’s automobile industry.
