Nearly a hundred experts and scholars from the United States, Britain, Japan, Hong Kong, South Africa and other countries and regions took part in the second International Conference on Digital Forensics and Investigation (ICDFI) organized by the Wuhan Engineering Science and Technology Institute (WESTI) on Sept 11.

The summit aimed to promote domestic research in computer forensics, and the participants discussed the techniques, laws and regulations of electronic data investigation, evidence collection and identification.

Cheng Bailian, party secretary of WESTI, said that various types of cybercrime are becoming increasingly rampant and this is a serious issue for personal and property safety.

The number of netizens in China has reached 591 million, and there has been an increasing number of Internet rumors which spread around the country and the rest of the world within seconds, as well as Internet fraud, gambling and other criminal activities.

Mai Yonghao, director of the Key Laboratory of Electronic Forensics, said the promotion of electronic forensics technology is of great importance for the protection of network security transactions.

In addition, the ICDFI organized a digital forensics competition for the first time, with five participating teams from domestic universities.
