Hubei provincial tourism administration mapped out a special action to check and eradicate tourism accidents before the National Day holiday.

The administration sent out seven inspection teams across the province to supervise tourism security. This was done in accordance with the arrangement of the provincial security affairs committee and provincial holiday tourism coordination leading group to ensure tourism safety in the National Day holidays and create a secure tourism consumption environment.

On Sept 20, Zhang Dahua, director of the provincial tourism administration, led officials of the administration’s general office and supervision division to inspect Renaissance Wuhan Hotel. Chen Weihua, deputy director of Wuhan municipal administration bureau, accompanied the inspection.

Zhang and his team inspected the hotel lobby, meeting rooms, guest rooms, kitchen, surveillance room and staff dining hall. They checked construction, management and operation of fire-fighting devices, safety management systems, safety logos and caution plates, and emergency lighting facilities. They paid particular attention to the state of fire-fighting access passages, fire hydrants, fire extinguishers and automatic spraying facilities. They also examined food sanitation and management over the use of fire, electricity and gas at the backstage catering service department. During the the inspection, Zhang randomly asked whether staff were familiar with the hotel’s monitoring equipment, fire control knowledge and fire extinguishing devices.

Zhang stressed that safety is the lifeline of tourism. It is also the bottom line for the survival of companies. All tourist facilities must follow the principle of managing their own affairs and give top priority to tourism safety. Leading officials must personally take charge of tourism safety. All members of the leadership should be involved, and special teams should ensure implementation of standards.

Zhang also said that on the eve of National Day holiday, the province’s tourism sector must take action to check and eliminate hidden dangers. All staff in the tourism industry must bear in mind the concept of “no safety, no tourism.” Tourism services should not receive travelers if they are unqualified so that the province can prevent tourism accidents and create a safe environment for tourists.

Before leaving the hotel, Zhang told the hotel manager that workers should always be alert with safety production. All staff should “devote themselves wholeheartedly to the whole process,” he said.
