French ex-premier and current mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppe, led a delegation to Wuhan in Hubei province on Sept. 8 and signed an agreement with the Chinese city.
According to the agreement, the two cities will cooperate in sustainable urban development, education and research, economic cooperation and health care in the coming two years.
Juppe said that Bordeaux faces the same issues of traffic jams and air pollution as Wuhan. Lots of measures were carried out in Bordeaux to relieve traffic jams, such as increasing public transportation, replacing high-emissions vehicles with bicycle and energy-saving electromobiles, and developing pedestrians-only commercial areas, reducing traffic volume in downtown by 30%,.
Besides the agreement, the Wuhan Water Conservancy Authority will cooperate with the France Bordeaux Water Supplies Department to restore the East Lake ecological environment. The two cities will also hold vocational education exchange activities as well as primary and middle education exchange activities.
Juppe and the delegation also visited many places around Wuhan like the national circulating economy demonstration region and Wuhan Railway Station.
