Children with disabilities in Central China's Henan province will get easier access to education, according to a recent plan released by the provincial government.

The plan targets ensuring the right of receiving the nine-year compulsory education for children with disabilities, such as hearing loss, visual impairment, and mental retardation, and calls for more funding to go into special education.

Under the plan, children with minor disabilities will be enrolled in ordinary schools whenever possible, and those with moderate disabilities can go to special schools.

For those who are not be able to go to school, they will receive a tailored family education service or distance education at home.

The plan sets a goal that more than 90 percent of disabled children in the province are expected to go to school for compulsory education by 2016.

According to statistics for 2013, the rate has reached 80 percent.

The subsidy for those students in compulsory education was 4,000 yuan ($652) last year. It will rise to 5,000 yuan in 2015 and 6,000 yuan next year. The subsidy on their education in high school will be raised to 2,000 yuan every year starting from this year.
