A cultural activity based on the Dragon Boat Festival was held at the Confucius Academy of Guiyang on June 18, attracting over 10,000 people looking to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival.
This year's activity drew attention to the area's left-behind children. Nearly 500 students from Daxing School visited the Confucius Academy of Guiyang and experienced traditional culture with their parents and teachers.
Located in Yunyan district of Guiyang city, Daxing School was established in 2000. Its students are mainly children of migrant workers and other floating population members, according to the school principal.
In addition to the left-behind children and their family members, a book donation was also held during the event. Donors received stamps which can be exchanged for holiday gifts. At the Confucius Academy of Guiyang, visitors lined up and waited eagerly to make their own dragon boat models. A form of traditional Chinese clothing known as Hanfu also drew much attention. More than 200 people wearing Hanfu were present at the Dragon Boat Festival.

Two public lectures discussing traditional culture were also held at the Confucius Academy of Guiyang on June 16 and June 17. Guest speakers included Xie Chengqiang, a famous composer at the Guangdong Song and Dance Theatre, and Xiang Yixian, a professor at Sichuan University.
"The activities held at the Confucius Academy of Guiyang taught people about rituals and increased awareness of traditional festivals," said Xiang during his lecture.
