Zhanjiang's Wu Shifu sails to success at 10th China Cup

Zhanjiang sailor, Wu Shifu, sailed away with the top prize at the 10th China Cup International Regatta, along with the rest of the crew aboard their vessel, 16 Trader Tornado, on Oct 30, the final day of the four-day competition.
Wu's team collected their prizes at the closing ceremony on Nov 1, at Shenzhen's Dameisha resort, after scoring three first places out of four contests.
Inaugurated in 2007, the annual contest is the first-ever and only large vessel sailing regatta established in China.
Wu, who has been sailing for 16 years, has been tacking well on the sailing scene in the past year, winning the 7th City Clubs Open Regatta International (CCOR) 2016 in Qingdao and 2016 Antigua Sailing Week in Australia.
And Wu plans to use his success to promote sailing in his hometown and throughout the country.
"I have been actively seeking cooperation with the Guangdong and Zhanjiang sports administrations in order to plan an international sailing competition in my hometown," Wu said in a telephone interview.
Approved by the General Administration of Sport of China, the China Cup International Regatta is held annually, each year attracting over 138 boats with 1,500 sailors of more than 38 nationalities to compete in the event. It has gained a lot of attention from the sailing community and international media.
