The new model of "ordering online and being served offline", or O2O, has been applied to a traditional convenience store in Fuzhou, capital city of China's Fujian province, news.fznews.com.cn reported March 16.

According to Wei Yucheng, the store owner, the store aims to provide services to medium-to-high-end clients living in the neighboring communities.

The customers can place their orders through WeChat, now China's biggest instant messaging platform, and then choose either home delivery or self-pick-up service, Wei said. Wei further explained that more services, such as plumbing, home care for the elderly and vehicle cleaning, will be included in the one-stop service platform.

It took about two years for the idea to go into practice, Wei said, adding that the store, which covers only 50 square meters, will introduce approximately 1,000 kinds of commodities, with 60 percent of them imported.

Wei noted that online business is blossoming in China and has transformed not only the way people live but also the operation of traditional businesses.

"Within one year, we’ll open another 20 stores with the same business model, and in the future our business will expand to other provinces. We already have some potential franchisees," Wei said, adding that the new stores will also make adjustments in response to the market.
