A lecture on cross-Straits lifelong education was held in Fuzhou, capital city of China's Fujian province, on March 16. More than 300 people from all circles of life on both sides attended.
The lecture, themed "public welfare and entrepreneurship", aims to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the enactment of the Fujian Provincial Lifelong Education Promotion Regulations. It was co-organized by the Fujian Education Department and the Fujian Provincial Promotion Association of National Lifelong Education.
Deng Fei, a social welfare activist, gave a keynote speech at the lecture. Deng has made earnest efforts to promote public good on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
He noted in his speech that the public should not just complain or criticize social issues and called on everyone to solve social problems together.
Lin Ying-chieh, deputy director of Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan, talked about the importance of lifelong study through his own experience in cultivating cross-Straits entrepreneur teams.
School is not the only place where knowledge can be learned, he said, adding that one should learn through daily life.
Scholars on both sides also shared ideas on the protection and construction of historical villages, and suggested the nation release more preferential policies to support college students who have established businesses in these isolated historical villages.
