A high-speed passenger liner across the Taiwan Straits has carried more than 100,000 people since it began operation in November 2011, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

The passenger liner, the Haixia, has played a constructive role in facilitating cross-Straits travel and improving exchanges, said Yang Yi, a spokesman with the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. The ship links the city of Taichung in Taiwan with Pingtan county in Fujian province.
