Solar energy in Anxi, a county in East China's Fujian province, is playing a big part in the area's drive to alleviate and eliminate poverty.

Statistics show that the photovoltaic power projects in Anxi have thus far reached 56, benefiting more than 2,000 families in abject poverty.

Built around remote villages in the county, where is renowned?for producing Tianguanyin, a variety of premium oolong tea,?these power plants are bringing locals a combined income of about 1.8 million yuan ($285,000)?annually.

Policy makers have listed poverty alleviation as one of the country's "three tough battles" for the next three years, along with risk prevention and pollution control.

The country still had around 30 million people living below the national poverty line at 2017 year-end. The government aims to lift more than 10 million of them out of poverty in 2018.
