Ke Jie, one of the world's best Go players, was defeated by another artificial intelligence Go program, China's Golaxy, on April 27 in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province, according to Xinhuanet.

It is the second time that Ke has been beaten by an AI Go program in an open contest; the first was by AlphaGo, Google's Go program, in a game played last year in Wuzhen town, East China's Zhejiang province.

Ke, in an interview after the match, revealed his feelings of inability when fighting with the domestic AI Go player, which, he admits, has a much stronger capability than him in computing and overall judgment on the ancient Chinese board game.

"At the beginning, I didn't lag behind too much, but felt bitterly powerless in the middle, since AI Go player could predict many more steps than me."

However, this defeat wasn't as upsetting for the top-ranking Go player as the last time, as he expects upcoming opportunities to fight against AI. Fine Art, an AI Go program developed by tech giant Tencent, has been designated the training partner for the China national Go team.

Golaxy has a very different algorithm compared with AlphaGo, according to Zhao Xing, member of the Go program research team, saying the fight against Ke was a test of its competitive ability.

In addition to human vs. AI Go games, others featuring eight AI Go programs from different countries including Japan, South Korea, Belgium, France and China competing against one another were also held on the same day.
