A group wedding ceremony for 36 couples was held in the Dongpu town, Putian in southeast China's Fujian Province on Feb 7.

Differing from other mass nuptials, the wedding was a gesture by the newlyweds to fight back against the local prevailing habit of holding lavish weddings, which has inflicted excessive financial burdens on some families.
