The Jianyang district of Nanping City in Fujian province was officially inaugurated on March 18.

Previously a county-level city, Jianyan was promoted to the district status after getting an approval from the State Council in May 2014 without change of its jurisdiction scope and government location.

Jianyan now administers 10 counties, 3 townships and 3 state-run farms, with a total area of 3.38 square kilometers and a population of 337,700 composed of 21 ethnic minorities.

Currently, Nanping has two districts – Jianyang and Yanping - under its jurisdiction.
