The U.S. Travel & Tourism Commission held its first tourist products promotion event in Xiamen on August 27. According to the meeting, a direct flight between Xiamen and the USA is expected to be opened by the end of 2015 at the earliest.

The U.S. Travel & Tourism Commission has set up offices in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou since they first entered China in 2013. For this year’s promotion event, the Travel & Tourism Commission brought 16 American representatives from local tourism bureaus, high-quality travel agencies, airline companies, and representatives from the best-known scenic spots in America to the promotion meeting in Xiamen.

Chen Guilin, the deputy director of the Xiamen Travel and Tourism Administration, said at the meeting that Xiamen is planning to develop new international air routes at a steady pace in the coming years. The newly built Xiamen Xiang’an International Airport will be able to hold an average annual passenger flow of 70 million people and XiamenAir has already purchased six Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes that will begin serving the Xiamen-America non-stop air routes in 2015.
