Representatives at the Second Session of the 12th Fujian Provincial People's Congress – which was held in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, from Jan 12 to 16 - proposed an "air pollutants regional linkage mechanism", with the aim of tackling air pollution in Fujian and surrounding areas in cooperation with other provinces and cities.

Chen Xiaowen, representative of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress, said provinces and cities should work together to deal with the issue of air pollution, in a similar way to the management of the water quality of Jiulong River carried out by the cities of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Longyan.

Pan Liang, a member of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the province should determine the causes of air pollution, and the meteorological department should monitor and release real-time air quality data so as to control and prevent smog.
