Abstract: This paper analyzes the main factors affecting the employment landscape. These factors are as follows. First, maintaining a stable economic growth of about 6% is the primary prerequisite for stable employment. Second, the decline of the working-age population and the growing number of old people will potentially restrict the sufficiency of labor supply. Third, technological progress has brought about the replacement of jobs with general skills and the strong demand for highly skilled personnel. Fourth, the adjustment and upgrading of industries have generated the urgent need to transfer labor from low-efficient departments to high-efficient departments. Fifth, the late-coming advantages of China’s central and western regions have become a new pillar booming employment growth. Sixth, Sino-US trade frictions have a great impact on employment in China’s export sector. In general, China’s labor market still faces the problems of labor shortage and structural unemployment, workers with inadequate skills, poor performance of labor market and mismatch of human capital. Efforts need to be made to improve the employment-stimulating ability of the new economy and new business forms, promote the in-depth integration of production and education, improve the intelligent matching level of the labor market, formulate employment promotion policies for key groups on a type-by-type basis, and establish an employment emergency response mechanism in light of Sino-US trade frictions.
