Abstract: The governance pattern of global food security is undergoing profound changes. The three major United Nations agencies including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Foundation for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) still play a leading role in this aspect. The regional and multilateral systems represented by G20, APEC, OECD and the African Union are the principal organizations in global food security governance. The United States is still striving to gain a bigger say and more influence in global food security governance. Viewing from the domestic side, China’s role has changed from a passive participant to an active partner, from a food recipient country to a food aid country, from a food importer to a food exporter, and its position in the global food security governance system continues to rise. In face of the new performance and new goals of global food security, China needs to play a more positive role in global food security governance in step with its enhanced international standing, increase foreign agricultural cooperation and assistance to improve the food supply capacity of less developed countries and strengthen research and personnel training to enhance the ability to participate in global food security governance.
