Daming Palace Pavilion – a replica of Daming Palace, the center of politics, economics and culture during the Tang Dynasty more than a thousand years ago - has just been completed at the Urban Best Practices Area of the Shanghai World Expo.
The replica's theme is the protection of history and the harmonious co-existence of cultural heritage and humanity.
The replica, located in the north part of the Shanghai Expo, with a length of 40meters and a width of 24 meters, covers an area of 960 square meters. The total building area is 763 square meters, in which the first floor totals 434 square meters, 329 square meters on the second floor. Its height is 16.86 meters, and Daming Palace Hall is designed by Zhang Jinqiu, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and was constructed by Shanghai Construction Group (Construction Company for China’s Pavilion of 2010 Expo).
Design
The design is based on a poem from Hanyuan Palace, written by Tang Dynasty poet Li Hua. We referred to the archaeological excavation and restoration research and Qifeng Pavillion in the western end of Hanyuan Palace, as well as artistic representatives for Que Towers in Tang Dynasty, Sanque Tower. It is restored as a replica of Qifeng Pavillion, with the ratio of 1:1. Simple and unsophisticated, powerful and bold, it is regarded as a remarkable representative of Chinese palatial architecture in ancient times.
Display
Daming Palace Pavilion is a modern exhibition building, integrated with new technologies and new functions, displaying a harmony between historical heritage and urban modernization.
3-D films and dry fog imaging systems bring visitors along for a fantastic journey, from Daming Palace Pavilion to its Relics Park. Visitors can have a visual experience of ancient civilization in the capital of Xi’an via the "Interactive Games" System.
