The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Beijing Municipal Government co-hosted a conference regarding the establishment of a national technology transfer cluster zone in west Zhongguancun, and Cao Jianlin, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, and Zhang Gong, vice mayor of Beijing, signed a “Framework Agreement on Co-establishing a National Technology Transfer Cluster Zone”.

Yan Aoshuang, director of the Beijing Science and Technology Commission, said the cluster zone is a center for technology transfer and innovative resources, and that it “will improve the mobility and integration of technology, talents, funds and services and improve technology transfer efficiency and service ability,” adding that it “will also facilitate the strategic update of China’s technology transfer system. ”

MOST and Beijing Municipal Government have been planning to establish such a cluster since last year. They used all the available economic and science resources to improve the environment for innovation and to implement the innovation mechanism in Beijing - which could serve as a model for the national innovation system which may take shape in the future.

Their efforts have paid off as several innovative services - such as Garage Cafe and Innovation Works - have emerged, and they have already attracted 43 headquarters and institutes and 107 scientific research enterprises, and the cluster is also home to 117 science and technology intermediary agencies and 280 financial institutions.
