Baidu Japan has purchased all the rights of the Japanese language input system "Simeji" for smart phones in Japan. The Simeji system is mainly used on smart phones with Android OS, according to Sankei Shimbun, one of Japan's national newspapers.

Baidu wants to integrate the Simeji mobile phone input system with its computer Japanese input system to improve competitiveness. The company will also take this opportunity to accelerate global business expansion.

The Simeji input method came into existence when smart phones with Android operating systems were used in Japan. The system was downloaded free of charge. With more affiliated functions, this input software is commended by users and has over 1.8 million downloads.

Baidu said its computer Japanese input system "Baidu IME" launched in May of 2011 and has attracted more than 1.8 million users.

Baidu will invite the developer and designer of Simeji to incorporate the search service technology into the Simeji system and help achieve the integration of product planning and market development.
