During the May Day holiday, high-tech measures such as tickets scanning, plate identification and satellite positioning were applied in the Huangshan Mountain scenic area, significantly reducing the pressure brought by the 71,816 tourists and 22,314 vehicles. No major complaints were received; and no traffic accidents or other emergencies happened.
The 111 monitoring spots in the area made it possible to closely monitor the real time numbers of tourists and vehicles. Also, the command and dispatch center used text messages, social media and LED screens to post weather forecasts, traffic conditions and other tips for tourists. New monitoring systems were set up at the traditionally congested spots, and the congestion was greatly alleviated.
A license plate identification system was set up at the expressway entrances outside the south and north gates. Identifying these license plates does not only facilitate traffic dispersion, but also provides detailed statistics of the tourism source markets.
Huangshan Mountain scenic area has also introduced a number of experience activities to encourage off-peak trips.
