Residents in neighboring cities of Hefei will soon spend less time traveling to the capital city of Anhui province, thanks to several railway projects under way.
"The construction of regional transportation hubs is the keystone for Hefei's transportation program this year," said Chang Xianmi, director of the Hefei Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
Chang said the Hefei-Bengbu Passenger Transportation Line, South Ring Route of Hefei Railway Hub and Hefei-Fuzhou (Fujian province) Passenger Transportation Line are currently under construction. Some of them might be put into service within the next year, he added.
The regional transportation network will strengthen connections between Hefei and other prefecture-level cities in the province.
Chang said the planning and preparation work on urban railways leading to the Hefei Economic Zone will begin this year, which will shorten the travel time to the zone from cities such as Huainan, Lu'an, Chaohu and Tongcheng.
A total 61.3 billion yuan will fund the projects, including transportation construction and related forestation in Hefei this year.
