In a conference on the Jilin provincial government work report, representatives reviewed the local commitments to building a "beautiful Jilin", according to local media reports.

Ecological construction is a great endeavor which the governments of all levels, enterprises, and citizens have taken part in.

Prioritizing the local ecology, the government has launched a "river-chief system”, a “l(fā)ake-chief system”, and a “forest-chief system”, which ensure that the designated official, namely the chief, is held responsible for the ecological management and development of the region assigned to them. In this way, ecological protection is no longer just a theory or a slogan, but a working guideline carried out in every specific program.

Cai Hongliang, a government official that has been in charge of ecological protection for many years, said that the main indicators in the water environmental quality of all the major basins in Jilin have far exceeded the national levels in 2020.

Enterprises have also contributed to the shared efforts of ecological protection, with State-owned enterprises taking the lead in green manufacturing. According to Song Dewu, a representative from Jilin Chemical Fiber Group Co, the company has spent a total of 360 million yuan ($54 million) on environmental protection treatment during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2015-20) period. He added that cutting-edge technologies are employed to recycle heat and water waste. The company has accomplished the goal of lower energy consumption, less pollution, and fewer emissions through these procedures.

The public has also contributed to the coexistence between nature and humans. Wang Dan, another representative of the conference, said that her hometown of Meihekou was a convincing example in achieving integration between rural and urban waste disposal, which contributed to the city winning the title of “national civilized city”.
