FASHION addicts in New York can now buy clothes from US designer Ralph Lauren just by tapping on the store's window.

Futuristic technology inspired by the Tom Cruise film Minority Report allows shoppers to satisfy their style cravings using a touch-screen and their credit card.

A 170cm image projected on the glass of Polo Ralph Lauren's Madison Avenue shop shows polo shirts and outfits created for the US Open tennis tournament.

Customers can buy the items simply by pressing gently on the image and then swiping their credit card in the slot provided - even when the shop is shut.

The clothes are then sent to their home address.

"After watching Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, I really wanted to find a way of making that amazing technology a retail reality," Polo Ralph Lauren corporate communications chief David Lauren said.

"We are thrilled to offer such a unique and exciting way for our customers to further explore the world of Ralph Lauren.

"With this initiative we are reinventing the concept of shopping any time."

The installation, which will also sell ball boy and girl uniforms and linesman's jackets, will be in place until September 10.
