Sword-ladder Climbing Festival of Baoshan

Date: March 4, 2009 (8^th day of the second month by lunar calendar)

Venue: Tengchong County, Baoshan City

There is a legend that Sword-ladder Climbing Festival is in memory of an ancient Han hero who offered great favor to Lisus. Lisu people set the death anniversary date of the hero as their ethnic traditional festival and show their willing to requite the hero by “climbing up a sword-ladder and dancing in a sea of flames” – most severe trials. During the festival, there will be activities like sword-ladder climbing, stepping into fire, throwing cigarette pack, finger-guessing game during drinking and dancing and singing.
