美國東部時間19日晚，臺灣國民黨主席馬英九率團抵達紐約，有人形容說，馬英九的美國行是“美國高度期待、大陸高度關(guān)切、陳水扁高度憂慮”。3月22日，馬英九在華盛頓演講，主張維持兩岸現(xiàn)狀
，全力發(fā)展臺灣經(jīng)濟，既不親亦不反大陸。

potential‘presidential’front-runner vowed on Wednesday to uphold the status quo
with the mainland, rejecting both independence and early unification with the
mainland.”
報道中的status quo源于拉丁語，指the existing condition or state of
affairs（現(xiàn)狀），常和動詞maintain，preserve或uphold連用，表示“維持現(xiàn)狀”，如“His directness bas annoyed
some who seek to preserve the comfortable status quo.”（他直截了當?shù)淖黠L惹惱了一些安于現(xiàn)狀的人。）
另外，若在status quo 后加上ante就是指“以前的狀況”了，如：“He did not readily embrace my
suggestion of a return to the status quo ante.”（
他不怎么樂意接受我提出的恢復以前狀況的建議。）
