7月11日，4名“基地”組織成員從位于駐阿富汗美軍巴格拉姆空軍基地的拘留中心越獄。這是駐阿美軍監(jiān)獄首次發(fā)生犯人越獄逃跑事件。美軍隨后出動地面部隊和直升機展開大規(guī)模搜捕行動。外電報道如下：Four

in Afghanistan
on Monday, fleeing through barbed wire stockades in the first
escape from the compound since the American military took over the
former Soviet airbase.
Also Monday, rescuers reported finding the body of a U.S. Navy SEAL,
the last to be accounted for from a four-man special forces unit that
disappeared after a June 28 ambush in the rugged mountains in the east of
the country.
U.S. and Afghan forces launched a manhunt for the suspects, identified
as Arabs from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Libya. U.S. soldiers set up
roadblocks and helicopters clattered low over villages near the heavily
guarded base north of the capital, Kabul.
Barbed在此表示“有刺的，有倒鉤的，具側(cè)刺毛的”，此外還有“尖刻的，諷刺的”等含義，例如：a barbed
remark（諷刺的話）；barbed statement（鋒芒畢露的聲明）。
據(jù)悉，4名越獄者分別來自敘利亞、科威特、沙特阿拉伯和利比亞。越獄事件發(fā)生后，在基地周圍和附近村莊，數(shù)十名美軍士兵每隔數(shù)百米，攔截過往車輛加以搜查，美軍直升機在空中盤旋。不過奧哈拉認為，身穿橙色囚服的越獄者可能仍在基地內(nèi)。
