People clad in ethnic wear gathered at Renhe Square in Yangbi, in Yunnan province, on Sept 1 to mark the opening of the 2017 Yangbi Walnut Festival.

During the eight-day festival, a variety of activities, including food tasting, cooking competitions and exhibitions, will be held.

Over the past few years, the Yangbi authorities have implemented projects to upgrade the local walnut sector — from cultivation to processing.

In the future, Yangbi will focus on the branding of walnut products, says Yang Yu, the Party secretary of the county.
