The US Marines in Iraq

I heard a report from within Iraq reporting on the morale of the American troops. Apparently many of the Marines were preparing to return to the US when all this trouble began. They had already sent back home most of their things and had made arrangements to meet their folks and friends upon their return. They were told, unofficially, it was reported, that they would be in Iraq for several more months -- the hot summer. However, they seem resolved to complete their mission, and seem rather upbeat since they have a tangible enemy. These guys are soldiers, not policeman, they know how to fight, that is their job and now they can see the work before them, the work that they have been trained for. The insurgents gave them new focus!
I heard expert analysts say that the insurgent's rebellion and attempt to break up the weakest elements of the collation might be successful in driving a wedge in the coalition forces to split them up and disrupt their association.
In the city of Kut, a reporter in the areas now occupied by the coalition reported that the residents that have come out of their homes in the aftermath of the fighting said the insurgents had them all intimidated, that the members of the insurgent group from the area were made up mostly of young and poor.
Folks just need to be able to focus on a single thing, a common enemy, to bring out the worse in the human condition, don't you think?
It seems that human beings have evolved only half a step beyond that of the animals. The gift of human awareness has apparently provided the species with an evolved awareness that is more advanced than the animal's herd instincts.
The human awareness seems to include the incredible ability to rally their focus with a simple instinctual hunting call to focus the lower self upon a single prey, at the exclusion of the individual's higher thought processes, numbed by the call of the herd, as if by alcohol.
The higher awareness becomes supressed, somehow and the hunter's predatory instinct takes over! Some folks seem to stay stuck in the stupor, even after the prey has been devoured!
HUMAN PREDATORS AND THEIR PREY
How it works: Nazis preyed on the Jews, Yankees preyed on slave-owners, Americans prey on the commies, the Middle East preys on the West and Israel (they need better focus?) and racists have their pick from a smorgasbord of different prey! Mob mentality is not going to stand still for dialog, discussion and reason.
Not too much thinking going on, a lot of knee-jerk, impulsive and irrational reactions, one might wonder why God bothered to give human beings a frontal lobe, or why God allows it to be shut down so easily.
I appeal to everyone who has their higher functions intact to yell back at the mobsters to shut up, even if that means they turn back and come on us -- just be ready to smack 'em when they come charging, as they no longer have the element of surprise and organization!
