The Opening Ceremony of the 4th East Asian Games will be held at 20:00 on October 29 at the Macau Stadium. In this grand activity, a fabulous show will definitely impress the audience with its elaborate programs and performance.

MEAGOC arranged a tour of decorated floats.

MEAGOC held a press conference on September 22 to introduce the arrangement of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The Opening Ceremony will start at 20:00 on October 29 at the Macau Stadium, and, the Closing Ceremony will start at 20:00 on November 6 at the Arena of the Macau East Asian Games Dome. Spectators need to arrive 1.5 hours before.

Manuel Silvério, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MEAGOC, introduced related information about the Games. "China's Vice Premier, Wu Yi, will be the guest of honour, and the Chief Executive of Macau SAR, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony," said Manuel Silvério.

Lu Jiankang, President of Beijing BeiAo Grand Culture & Sports Events Co. Ltd., introduced the program of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. "The 4th East Asian Games will be the first multi-sports event in Macau, and a unique and creative performance will show the history of Macau and the development into a modern city after the creation of the SAR. All the preparations for the Opening Ceremony will be complete by October 20," said Mr. Lu.

Eric Chau Ka Lai, Director of MEAGOC, introduced the preparation about the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. "It will be the opening of the first large-scale multi-sports event held in Macau, and the first time a cauldron will be lit in Macau Stadium," said Eric Chau.

He explained that the Opening Ceremony would be in three parts ?V a pre-show performance, the official ceremony with 3,000 athletes and officials from nine countries and regions, and the cultural performance, entitled "Light of East Asia - Symphonic Poem of Macau". This story would be in five chapters, he said, and would feature 8,000 volunteers, mostly from local schools.

Peter Ung Hoi Ian, Director of MEAGOC, introduced the 2,000 Patacas commemorative ticket package. "It will entitle the purchaser of the ticket to have a seat near the VIP area, and the package includes a commemorative coin, a certificate, a set of stamps and a book," said Peter Ung.

He said that 15,722 tickets were available for the Opening Ceremony, and 57 per cent, or about 9,000, had been sold, leaving 6,632. A number of corporate boxes are available, and all details can be found on the official website (www.east-asian-games2005.com).

In order to take a look at the colourful scenes awaiting spectators at the Opening Ceremony, MEAGOC arranged a tour of decorated floats and a rehearsal involving several schools.

The ceremonies will be featured extensively on TV, led by host broadcaster CCTV and including TDM, TVB, DPR Korea TV and Korea TV.
