It is widely known that Macau is hosting the 4th East Asian Games ?V but everyone, it seems, wants a piece of the action.

The organising committee has been inundated with requests from other sports organisations to hold promotional events during the period of the Games, from October 29 to November 6. While attending the 24th general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Guangzhou, the chairman of the board of directors of the Macau 4th East Asian Games Organising Committee (MEAGOC), Manuel Silvério, met various organizing committees to discuss promotional activities in Macau.

On behalf of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR, Fernando Chui Sai On, Mr Silvério presented a souvenir to An Li, the deputy mayor of Changchun, after the meeting.

On September 8, Mr Silvério represented MEAGOC at a meeting with the 2007 Changchun Winter Asian Games Organising Committee (CWAGOC) to plan such a project. CWAGOC felt that, with the two multi-sports events roughly the same size, they will send a study team to Macau and observe the work of MEAGOC. During the meeting, CWAGOC suggested staging a cultural event called "Night of Changchun" to promote culture and sports in the Chinese city, and MEAGOC supported the idea and offered their assistance in making it a success. On behalf of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR, Fernando Chui Sai On, Mr Silvério presented a souvenir to An Li, the deputy mayor of Changchun, after the meeting.

Mr Silvério also met with the 2006 Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) in Guangzhou. Both parties discussed the idea of staging part of the torch relay for the Doha Asian Games in Macau. At the invitation of DAGOC, Mr Silvério promised to send a team of volunteers from Macau to work at the Doha Asian Games as they would have the experience of the 4th East Asian Games behind them.

During the busy trip to Guangzhou, Mr Silvério also met Xu Deli, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, and Yang Naijun, President of Provincial Sports of Guangdong, and exchanged ideas about the promotion of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games in Macau.

After those meetings, Mr Silvério described the 4th East Asian Games as a great multi-sports event, and said it would give Macau the chance to prove it could host different international activities and improve the international image of the city. Also, through the interest in the Games, the city would become an excellent platform for the promotion of all Asian sports events which, in turn, would contribute to the overall development of sport in Asia。
