Six-party talks chief negotiatiors to hold first meeting
The chief negotiators of the six-party talks on Korean Peninsula nuclear issue are scheduled to hold their first meeting at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing Tuesday afternoon. The delegation heads include: Wu Dawei from China, Kim Kye-gwan from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Christopher Hill from the United States, Song Min-soon from the Republic of Korea, Alexander Alexeyev from Russia and Kenichiro Sasae from Japan. The delegations will also hold one-on-one meetings before the group meeting, which is the first one in the second phase of the fourth round six-party talks, according to diplomatic sources. The six-party talks was set to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular through peaceful means. China has hosted three rounds of such talks since 2003. The fourth round talks recessed on August 7 after discussing the nuclear issue for 13 days. The second-phase talks will focus on the settlement of the difference between DPRK and the United States, the sources said. The US required DPRK to give up all nuclear program but DPRK insisted that it has the right over peaceful use of nuclear energy. |
