Beijing mayor: Public security and health top task

The Beijing municipal government will spare no efforts in guaranteeing public health and security by removing potential security dangers as soon as possible during the 7th High-Tech Expo, said Beijing Mayor Wang Qishan, also chairman of the Expo Preparation Committee, April 8.
 "The expos of previous sessions have attracted hundreds of thousands of people, so public security and health become a key issue for the success of the 7th Expo," said Wang at an organization meeting in Beijing.
"The Beijing government pledges to take all potential dangers into consideration and make full preparations."he added.
Wang also stressed the purpose of the mass media:
"The Expo has won great achievements in the past sessions but still faces great challenges in future. To overcome the challenges, we should pay much attention to the role of the mass media. The Expo Organizing Committee pledges to keep in real-time touch with the mass media and provide them with full information. The committee will frequently read news headlines to make sure they have understood the Expo's themes and grasped the key issues."
Lastly, the mayor pointed out: "It is crucial for us to grasp the strategic opportunities in the first two decades of the 21st century, especially for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008."
