Chinese women keep world mark crack momentum at National Games

to shatter world records sustained here on the second day of the women's
weightlifting competition at the 10th National Games.
Olympic champion Chen Yanqing from Jiangsu Province steered into the women's
weightlifting 58kg class competition to claim the gold medal and shattered the
world records time and again on Tuesday afternoon.
After snatching 112.5kg to upset the world mark of the kind, the 26-year-old
jerked 142.5kg to beat the world record of 133kg set by compatriot Sun Caiyan.
Her 255kg total also eclipsed the world record of 240kg, which was set by
China's Wang Li in 2003.
The women's event was held in the Stadium of Suzhou University, of which Chen
studied on the business administration program. Born in a small town near
Suzhou, Chen dedicated the gold medal to her university and all the people in
Suzhou.
"I would like to thank my teachers and friends in Suzhou University. They
came here and supported me during the competition, " Chen told the press.
"I competed here only for the gold medal. I had not expected I could lift
such a weight."
"Because I am the Olympic champion, people certainly thought I would win the
gold for Jiangsu at the National Games. Actually, I felt too much pressure
before the competition."
Gu Wei of the Chinese Army finished second with a total of 247. 5kg and beat
Qiu Hongmei of Jiangxi, who lifted the same weight, due to the body weight
advantage.
