About China Daily
China Daily, established on June 1, 1981, is the only national English-language newspaper in China. The paper is printed in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, New York and Jakarta. Its circulation is 200,000, one-third of which is abroad in more than 150 countries and regions. China Daily runs www.hwdly.com.cn, one of the country’s major news websites, which receives 6 million pageviews a day, two-thirds from overseas. Committed to helping the world know more about China and the country's integration with the international community, China Daily is regarded as one of the country’s most authoritative English media outlets and an important source of information on Chinese politics, economy, society and culture. It is often called the “Voice of China” or “Window to China.” China Daily also serves as important source for high-end Chinese readers who want to know more about the world. It is the newspaper most popular with mainstream readers in the West as well as being the most frequently quoted Chinese newspaper by international news media. China Daily is quoted at least 500 times a month by other media. For example, Reports from China, a weekly compiled by China Daily, has 100,000 subscribers in the United States. It is printed and distributed by the Washington Post National Weekly Edition. As a newspaper group, China Daily also runs China Business Weekly, China Daily Hong Kong Edition, Shanghai Star, Beijing Weekend and 21st Century. The last has three editions for students at senior, junior high schools and primary schools. The circulation of 21st Century and its affiliated editions surpasses 1 million. Staff reporters, correspondents and editors with the newspaper group are known for their professionalism, ethics, enthusiasm and creativity. More than 20 experts, mainly from the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and India, ensure linguistic and journalistic standards. As a quality broad-sheet newspaper, China Daily features a contemporary style adopted in a major redesign in January 2004. The newspaper features 16 pages Monday through Friday and 12 pages on Saturday. Pages are designed with a focus on appearance, the importance of their content and readers’ needs. In-depth reports and features, news analyses and editorials as well as comment on hot issues are representative of the opinions that matter in China. Another major redesign and expansion are planned. Readers within China include foreign diplomats, business people, executives from multinationals, personnel from international organizations, NGOs, students and travellers as well as Chinese Government officials, policy-makers, business executives, science and technology researchers, experts and scholars. Readers and subscribers abroad are government officials, members of parliaments, international organizations, multinationals, Chinese embassies, business people with ties to China and those interested in the country, including professors, researchers and students in universities and institutes. Headquartered in Beijing, China Daily has offices in Shanghai and Guangzhou and correspondents in all major cities in China. Most news, editorials, analyses and features are written by staff. The newspaper also uses reports and photographs from Xinhua News Agency, Reuters, the Associated Press, AFP, Bloomberg News, The Times and The Guardian. A great number of experts and scholars and writers in various fields contribute to commentary and features pages. China Daily also exchange information with major newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, websites and magazines. China Daily is the only representative for China in the Asian News Network, a non-government media organization consisting of 14 major English-language newspapers, whose total circulation is more than 20 million. China Daily has launched various platforms for exchanges between China and the outside world; and to date, has hosted 13 sessions of the China Daily CEO Roundtable, a high-profile forum for multinationals doing business in China. |
